45. Gyeong Ju ( Korea Trip - Day 4&5 - April 2016)

We continued our 4th day by headed straight to the main train station & board to Gyeong Ju. We bought few rice ball & Latte for in train food . (to get the feel of flight food.. hahaha) but yeah. Nevertheless, it is good.

We took KTX train to Gyeong Ju. Why Gyeong Ju? Cause i am a runningman fan, there is an episode where they chose this place & we fall in love with it. So, here we are.

Gyeong Ju gives the feel like Modern meet Tradisional .  As we can see, even their Coffee Chain gave in the traditional feeling.
It is experimenting the real korea.

Thus, we decided to stay in a korean home style hostel. It located in the centre of the city. We are free to use everything & there are free flow coffee provided. as soon as we checked-in, we walked around the city. It was so beautiful.

Gyeong Ju is the place of Silla Kingdom. Those who watch 'Hwarang' will be able to relate to it. As the originally place of Silla Kingdom, everyone seem so rich. Although it is far from the main capital city. Yet, look a lil POSH.

We walked around major silla attraction. It will be more plesentable & insta worth it at night or maybe in Autumn. Night at Gyeoung Ju is colder than Seoul while the day is hotter. So plan your clothing accordingly if you are about to consider it as a trip destination. They have a few shrine & they were about to close when we arrived.

We stated by visiting their national  Cheomseongdae . It is an observatory ruin in 632 AD. There are a few local came for wedding photoshoot as well. Cheomseongdae means star-gazing tower in Korean. Cheomseongdae is the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in Asia, and possibly even the world.

Next we went to Gyeongju Historic Area. In 2000, it was designated as one of Unesco World Heritage.  It is an area that embodies the time-honored history and culture of Gyeongju, the ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom (57 BC-AD 935). The Gyeongju Historic Area has a total of 52 designated cultural assets that are registered as World Cultural Heritages.

Next just across the historical area is  Gyerim. The Gyerim is a small woodland in Gyeongju National Park, Gyeongju, South Korea. The name literally means "rooster forest." The grove lies near the old site of the Silla kingdom palace in central Gyeongju

Lastly, we drop by Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond in Gyeongju is an artificial pond in Gyeongju National Park, South Korea. It was part of the palace complex of ancient Silla. It was constructed by order of King Munmu in 674 CE.
This area is beautiful during the day but even breath taking during the night. So it is advisable to go there when the sun are down. (we when there before the sun down so the photo that we took & the one on google make us regret for not going at night.)

We continue our journey & drop by the nearest Asian market to find something to cook. Instead of eating out, we chose to cook in our hostel. To feel the sentiment of Korea house. && obviously it have to be noodles!!

We grab a few kimchi, noodles, coffee mix.
&& walla. 5 packs for 3 people. indeed. good coffee & soupy noodle in the cold weather made up as an excellent choice.

5th day started early in the morning with  breakfast in the house, coffee mix & hop on the bus . We check out and set to Bulguksa Temple. It is not a  Gyeong Ju trip without visiting Bulguksa. Bulguksa Temple is the representative relic of Gyeongju and was designated as a World Cultural Asset by UNESCO in 1995.

The beauty of the temple itself and the artistic touch of the stone relics are known throughout the world. Bulguksa Temple underwent numerous renovations from the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392) to the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), but was burned down during the Imjin War (Japanese Invasions, 1592-1598).

Even today, Bulguksa Temple is home to many important cultural relics however, we only manage to drop to Seokgatap & Dabotap due to time constraint. We need to rush to Busan in the evening. From entering the temple through the Cheongun and Baegun Bridge, Dabotap is located on the right side, opposing Seokgatap on the left side

Dabotap Pagoda and the Seokgatap Pagoda tower over all the others as being the most excellent specimens for their complex ingenious architecture, profound philosophical depth and aesthetic charm. They are considered to be an inseparable and opposite-but-complimentary eum-yang pair, a yin-yang pair, standing together in view of the Buddha, offering all those who look upon them a lesson in monumental stone.

The Dabotap Pagoda represents the eum characteristics of being female, dark, cold, of energy moving downward and inward, and of the transformation of heavenly principles into the myriad physical forms we enjoy on this earth.

In contrast, the Seokgatap Pagoda represents the yang characteristics of being male, bright, hot, of energy moving upward and outward and of the spiritual aspirations of humankind.

We ended our Gyeong Ju Trip by having a vegetarian bibimbap with grill fish by the side. It is so delicious. The store owner also gave us lots of side dishes and kimchi stew in the house.

&& it wont be Shafiqa without a cup of coffee. So, we still chill to grab one.

In my opinion, Gyeong Ju is a simple yet worth it destination on your South Korea Trip. It might not have many store for cosmetic shopping spree but good enough to keep mind at ease.
